Anaesthesia, pain management and rehabilitation
Nicki Grint heads up our anaesthesia department and is now joined by James Hunt. Together with the excellent nursing team, these two board-certified anaesthetists ensure that all anaesthetics and sedations carried out within the hospital are undertaken as safely as possible, with each patient having an individualised protocol. Analgesia (pain relief) of both our surgical and medical patients is of paramount importance, and the anaesthetists employ additional techniques such as local anaesthetic blocks, continuous rate infusions of drugs and acupuncture to ensure patient comfort.
Our nurses have a particular interest in patient rehabilitation and have gained further qualifications in this area. In conjunction with the Soft tissue, Orthopaedic and Neurology services, an individual rehabilitation programme is created for each patient. These include techniques such as cryotherapy, heat therapy, soft tissue mobilisations, manual therapies and electrotherapies to improve patient comfort, mental wellbeing and recovery.
The nurses are supported by Nicky Grant BSC Hons, MCSP, HPC, PG Cert, ACPAT A, a chartered ACPAT Physiotherapist who runs weekly clinics here at Cave Veterinary Services.
