Over the years, the general level of love, care and the highest degree of knowledge of all of the staff has been invaluable comfort and it’s wonderful that Cave care so much about the human family members as well.

    Financial Director/Partner

    Claire Cave worked as a Veterinary Nurse in a private practice in Warwickshire for 8 years before moving to Bristol University as the Hills Veterinary Nurse in Small Animal Intensive Care in 1998.  In 2000 she moved to Glasgow University where she ran the Small Animal Intensive Care Unit at the Veterinary School. In 2003 she returned to the southwest with Tom. She has lectured in Veterinary Nursing at Bicton Agricultural College, Devon and is currently contributing to veterinary nursing texts. Tom and Claire’s son Will was born in 2003 and was followed in 2006 by their daughter Florence. In 2011 Tom and Claire completed their family with their second son, Charlie Cave.

  • Helen Breakspear Hughes

    Medical Secretary

    Helen joined Cave Veterinary Specialists in the role of Medical Secretary in 2011. She holds the AMPSAR Diploma qualification for Medical Secretaries and has many years of experience in this field. In her spare time, she enjoys pottering on her allotment, walking, cooking, reading, going to concerts/theatre and spending fun time with her family.

    Lin joined the front of house team at Cave Veterinary Specialists when we moved into the new hospital in 2010. Lin has extensive experience in retail and ran her own retail business for over 25 years!  Over the years Lin has been a member of a local dog obedience training club where she had trained her Golden Retrievers Oliver and Kestrel to the Gold Standard of the Good Citizens scheme, and is now training her young Golden Retriever, Tally.  Lin has also been a trainer within the club and has trained other budding owners and their much loved pets to this high standard.

    Lin’s other interests include gardening, where she has a large vegetable plot and a well maintained garden. Lin also has a keen interest in history and regularly visits historical venues and enjoys historical literature. Lin is also kept very busy with her grandchildren Ben and Isabella.

    Jacky works in our admin office. Her responsibilities, amongst others, are insurance claims and Phaseal orders. In her spare time, Jacky enjoys dog walking and voluntary work for the RSPCA, and she also enjoys spending time at home with her cat Harvey.

    Nicola joined our Admin team in April 2012 and is now in charge of all our Marketing. Nicola has a great deal of experience and skill with all elements of her work. Since joining Cave Veterinary Specialists Nicola has passed the AMSPAR Level 2 in Medical Terminology with distinction. Nicola has two daughters, two grandchildren, a Labrador and a nutty Labradoodle to keep her busy when she is not at work.

    Beth joined us here at Cave Veterinary Specialists in 2016 after working for a Microbiology laboratory and Dunster Castle for the National Trust in Visitor Services and previously as a Countryside Ranger. Beth started at Cave as an Animal Care Assistant in the hospital and joined the admin and marketing team in 2017. When Beth isn't at work she enjoys walking her dogs on Exmoor as well as photography and working on a local shoot. She has a cat called Agatha, three black Labradors and a German Wirehaired Pointer called Otto. Beth also enjoys travelling and has worked in South Africa and Madagascar.

    Holly originally started working at the hospital as an Animal Care Assistant while studying at Richard Huish College for her A-Levels .After moving to Madrid for a year to improve her spoken Spanish and travelling in the Far East, Holly returned to us as a valued addition to our Reception team, and has since progressed to be in charge of our Referrals.  She has a daughter named Rosie and a son called Jacob and enjoys camping, reading and spending quality time with her husband and her two children.

    Amy joined Cave Veterinary Specialists as a Referral Liaison in 2016. Having recently come from Dental Nursing, Amy's love of animals enticed her to take the jump and join the Cave Veterinay Specialist team. Outside of work Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, her son Jake and friends and family. Amy has two cats called Rory and Ronnie.

     Andrew joined us here at Cave Veterinary Specialists in 2018 following 28 years working with the police in civilian roles, most recently 11 years with Devon and Cornwall Police working on the Enquiry Desk at Exeter Police Station. Andrew wanted to fulfil a life long wish to work in an animal related environment and he particularly enjoys referral liaison, reception duties and other administrative tasks.  Outside of work, Andrew enjoys reading (in particular JRR Tolkien, Conan-Doyle and Richard Adams) and is a bit of a movie buff, especially sci-fi and fantasy adventure films such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings!  Andrew has a beautiful rescue cat from Cat's Protection called Abi the tabby! She is now around 13 years old and sadly had a stroke in January 2016, however Abi was referred to us here at Cave and she has since enjoyed a new lease of life and is still very kitten-like and has a beautiful, loving character.

    Clare & her husband moved to Somerset from Wiltshire in 2012 and joined our Admin team in June 2013, working on Reception. Prior to joining Caves, Clare has had various administrative jobs and has also been a Special Needs Teaching Assistant for the last 17 years. In her spare time Clare is busy renovating her new home and spending quality time with her family. When she has the time she enjoys walking, theatre, reading and being by the sea.

    Linda joined our reception team in December 2014, having previously been a Primary School Teacher and more recently working in retail. She has always wanted to work within a veterinary practice and with her love of meeting people and animals, she can now fulful this wish. In her spare time Linda has 3 cats and 2 dogs to look after. She also enjoys walking, spending time with her family, baking cakes, gardening and reading.

    Lisa comes to us with a wealth of administrative experience. Ideally suited to work here at Cave Veterinary Specialists, she is passionate about animals, a team player and thrives in a busy atmosphere. Lisa loves swimming, gardening, time with her family and friends and long walks with her Springer cross Lab Darcy. As well as Darcy, she has three cats – Fizz, Bella and Reggie a tortoise called Florence, two rabbits – Russell and Persephone and five fish!

    Diane joined Cave Veterinary Specialists in June 2015 having previously been working in hairdressing and enjoying all aspects of customer care. Her love of animals has meant she has always wanted to be involved in a veterinary practice. Diane has two lively dogs, one cat plus two teenage children to keep her busy!
